Controversial subject for sure, but, do you let your dog sleep on the bed? We never never did. Not even when Lucky was really little. She was crate trained all the way. My other dogs never slept on the bed. Growing up we were a no dogs on the furniture kind of household, mostly.
So how did this happen?! Here we are, nearly 14 months in to dog ownership and Lucky is IN THE BED, and under the covers. I think she took advantage of me being asleep, she certainly isn't sneaky about it anymore. In fact she nudges me to open up the blankets to let her in. It has changed our habits for sure! Both the dog and bed linens get washed a ton more. Making a lot of additional housework. Maybe its worth it.
Maybe it started in Sky's room. Lucky always stays with Sky until she is fast asleep. It's they're nightly ritual. Once Sky is in a very deep sleep, Lucky strrreeettches, hops off the bed, rubs her nose in the carpet, ( leaving her scent to ward off any other dog that may break in and threaten Sky?!), and comes to see her Mom and Dad, hoping for snackos. We had a really cold spell here, it was -42 Celsius one morning, and the house started to get cool overnight, we have a lot of windows and sometimes the heater just don't keep up! I think that's when Lucky made her move. I was cold and so was she, she asked to come up, and then she insinuated herself into the bedding to stay warm. Now I wake up to scenes like this!
